Christmas came to the Bakery!

Updated: Jan 19, 2021

Hello peoples.. so this year has been for our family as it has been no doubt for everyone, hard work. And for a lot of families it has been heartbreaking, agonising and downright awfull, we have been challenged in ways not seen for decades. Though there have been some blessings in the darkness.

Christmas is for us about hearth and home, showing love and being family, spending time with our church family, celebrating God, sharing, making and enjoying food and epic times. Well because of covid-19 it had to be done differently. And because lockdowns, social distancing and isolation made showing love in our usual way impossible, we did what we do and made cakes..lots of cakes. Because for us cakes are all about love.

Relationships are so imprortant and this year even more so!

And so, because this year it has been so difficult to get together or feel like family. Well it has for ours as its mahoosive. I felt it was only right to give a lotta love at Christmas.

So we made a bunch of our rich fruit cakes and gave them out. Now its not something we usually do, or on the scale we did it this year, as the brandy well it aint cheap. And I aint made of money. (six kids takes a lot of upkeep)

This year We as a family, wanted, or needed, to show the love that we couldnt ordinarily share in our usual ways. So I used what I had and did what I could and made cakes. As my mom-in-law said "its what you do sam, well its who you are."

To me cakes are a way of showing love. And feeling loved is what drives most of us..ok well maybe that applies only to me, you be the judge of that, but you know what I mean, we all want to love and be loved. Wedding cake = talking about love, birthday cakes = giving love ect. its important.

We as a family have had a really really hard year, my hubs was made redundant and as you know we have 6 cake munchers, so it was quite hair raising experience. We are also in the process of selling our house, for more room and hopefully a bigger kitchen lol. We have been blessed with family that helped and found ways of helping us through.

To our little family bubble, the Christmas Holiday was a time to reflect and relax, to count our blessings and be thankful that we survived and were still going on together as a family. Giving Is always better than getting, so showing the love was big on our agenda. Sometimes when the cake hits the fan, giving while in a hard and hectic place brings you back to feeling human and gives you a place of peace to stand on. And the Good Lord knows our family needed a little peace.

Giving takes you away from how you feel and your life and reconnects you to others needs and their lives.

The Takeaways...

The best bits were... When we gave out the cakes, the recipients were happy, suprised and joyfull. Which is what giving love is all about, not the glory and bragging rights but just the joy of giving.

  • We had fun making cakes

  • Our people felt the love

  • It cheered people up who have, in some ways had a harder year than we did

  • The cakes tasted fab so I was told.

Christmas is about what you can give, not what you get. And it doesnt matter if its not shiny or expensive. As long as its heartfelt thats all that counts (in my way of seeing things) and yeah I know, I know.. it can sound like a soundbite but its true, I hope your celebrations have been great too and if not here's a free hug ((huuuuuug))
